Entering DNS settings in the Westell 2200 modem to opt out of DNS Assistance There are two procedures that you must complete in order to opt out of DNS Assistance:

  1. Find and record your current DNS server settings
  2. Statically Assign your DNS Settings
Follow the detailed steps below to complete each procedure.

Note: Setting the DNS server settings to static will opt out all computers including those connected through a wireless connection.

Find and record your current DNS server settings
  1. Open Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. This is the default gateway address.
  2. If you are prompted to log in, enter your user name and password, and then click OK.
  3. Select Status from the main menu, and then select Connection Summary.
  4. In the IP Network Address section, record the numbers stored in the Primary DNS and Seconday DNS fields. These numbers represent your current DNS server settings.

  5. Enter the DNS address that you previously recorded into the DNS Primary and DNS Secondary fields.
Note: Do not change any other settings on this screen.
  6. Replace the last octet of your DNS server with .14 in both the DNS Primary and DNS Secondary fields.
For example, if your existing DNS address is 123.123.123.12, replace the .12 at the end of the address with .14. The new address for this example would be 123.123.123.14.
  7. Click Set VC, and then click OK.
