Verizon has been proudly serving the Fire Island community for over 50 years, and we appreciate the feedback we’ve received from our customers over the past few months. As you may have heard, we recently announced our decision to build our Verizon FiOS® network on the western side of Fire Island to replace our damaged copper network. Our significant investment in this advanced fiber-optic network will expand the options we provide for voice and Internet services.
Here are the solutions we will provide over the new fiber network:
Verizon FiOS Double Play Bundles: Voice + FiOS Internet (speed options from 15-500 Mbps). For residential customers, FiOS Digital Voice service will be provided; for businesses, we will provide traditional Verizon Voice service over our fiber network
Verizon Voice Link™: Voice only service over a wireless network
Verizon Voice: Traditional voice only telephone service over our fiber network
The construction of the fiber optic network is already underway and will continue for the next 3-6 months, with the goal of being ready to serve customers in early 2014.
For residents and business owners who plan to upgrade to Verizon FiOS, we’d like to hear from you so that we can preposition our fiber optic network to your location. This will speed up the timing for installation once the network construction is complete. Click on the link to the right and fill out the requested fields to add your address to the list. We will be in contact with you soon.
Please check back to this website for updates on our progress.
For any current service needs, Verizon Voice Link continues to be available. Please call the Fire Island Hotline at 1-888-692-5727 (Monday-Friday 8am-9pm, and Saturday 8am-6pm) for any questions or to order service.

When will the fiber network be completed? When can Verizon FiOS® be installed?
Construction is currently underway and will continue for the next few months. We expect the network to be ready for customers early in 2014.
What does this mean for me as a Verizon voice customer?
Customers who need voice-only services will have two options:
Verizon Voice Link™: Voice only service over a wireless network, which is an innovative voice solution that connects to your home or business inside telephone wiring and offers the most popular calling features (features vary by plan). This solution is available today, and will remain an option in Fire Island. The device requires commercial power and is equipped with a battery unit that uses standard AA batteries and has 36 hours of talk life and 2 hours of talk life.
Verizon Voice: Traditional voice only telephone service over our fiber network. This solution provides the same features and pricing options available over our traditional copper network. A battery backup unit will be installed that provides up to eight hours to individual customers in the event of a commercial power failure. The battery backup unit also has a “battery emergency use” button, which provides up to one additional hour of battery life in case a customer needs to make an emergency call.
What if I am a voice and data customer, or would like Internet service?
Verizon will offer customers interested in broadband Internet service the FiOS “Double Play” bundles; Voice + FiOS Internet (speed options from 15-500 Mbps). For residential customers, the Double Play will include FiOS Digital Voice (FDV); for businesses, the Double Play will include traditional Verizon Voice service over our fiber network.
How much will Verizon FiOS cost?
The pricing and applicable promotions for our Verizon FiOS Double Play bundles will be the same as the offers and pricing available in other areas of Long Island. Unique pricing will not be developed for Fire Island for the FiOS bundles. Verizon Voice will be offered at the same pricing available to other customers in NY.

Verizon Voice Link is not currently compatible with Life Alert, security systems, fax machines, or credit card machines.
Will I receive the same 911 support as with my traditional landline phone service?
Yes, in case of an emergency you would dial 911. Both Verizon Voice Link and Verizon Voice will identify your exact address for the 911 systems and operator.
Do I have to sign up for a 2-year contract with FiOS?
The best offers and pricing are available with a 2-year contract, but month-to-month options will be available for the Verizon FiOS Double Play bundles.
Will I be able to seasonally suspend my service?
