Aurora, IL Youth Football League Receives a Special Surprise

A surprise in the form of a man who has 270 career tackles in the NFL can be hard to keep under wraps. But when he’s on-hand to surprise more than 150 kids, you’ll find a way to hide him.

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, Tim Jennings of the Chicago Bears inspired a room full of children when he showed up at the Fox Valley Gators Youth Football and Cheerleading League’s year-end banquet. At the event, he talked to the kids about the importance of getting an education and being involved in the community.

Throughout the Gators’ season, the league hosted a no-longer-used cell phone drive at home games in support of Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine program. By season’s end, 350 phones were collected, making a positive impact on the Aurora community.

Their efforts were honored at the banquet with a $10,000 donation from the Verizon Foundation to Mutual Ground Inc., an Aurora-based domestic violence prevention agency. The kids learned first-hand what their efforts can help accomplish – supporting women and kids like them who need an extra hand.
