February ushers in Black History Month and FiOS On Demand highlights achievements in black culture with a powerful combination of movies and free content, much of it historical, from leading networks in America.

Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history.

The event was the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans.  Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history.

FiOS customers can access a complete folder of movies to rent or own during February featuring both modern day entertainment and content with an historic view, including "Lee Daniels' The Butler,"  "The Help," "The Best Man Holiday," "Fruitvale Station" and "Baggage Claim".  As the month unfolds and more movies are added there will be 26 total titles under the folder “Black History Month” at the On Demand menu.

As always, FiOS On Demand is a combination of fee and free content and Black History Month is no exception.  The Black History folder will also reveal 36 free options from networks like ESPN, Showtime, Lifetime, TV One, USA Network, Music Choice and Investigation Discovery among others. The FiOS On Demand content features are designed to give you a broad, wide-ranging appreciation and understanding of achievements by black Americans over time and right up to today.  There is also a selection of entertainment and music content featuring African American stars.

Together the FiOS On Demand content features are designed to give you a broad, wide-ranging appreciation and understanding of achievements by black Americans over time and right up to today.

Sometimes we laugh or cry harder than we thought or learn more than we anticipated when we least expect it.  Take a moment or two during February to be both entertained and educated by our FiOS On Demand Black History Month content – yet one more reason why FiOS On Demand is the undisputed industry leader for on demand content.
