Meet the Blogger: Makeba Giles From MELISASource.com

As part of our “Meet the Blogger” feature, today we introduce you to Makeba Giles, owner, writer and creative director of MELISASource.com.

Give a brief description of who you are and what you do.

My name is Makeba Giles and I am a St. Louis native. I'm a married mother of four children ranging in age from college to elementary school. I’m a WAHM (work-at-home-mom) and owner, writer and creative director of MELISASource.com, where I deliver life, culture and current events the positive way. My loves are music, movies, traveling and spending time with my family.

Why did you create your blog?

I started my blog to create an online source that features articles of motivation and empowerment inspired by culture, current events and real life. The primary goal is to showcase the good that is happening in the world and ways to manage the not so good. Through my articles and personal musings, as well as my reviews, tips and resources for busy families, my mission is to provide thought-provoking commentary while encouraging healthy conversation, self-reflection and positive life action.

What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger?

What I enjoy most about being a blogger is the ability to help others. Whether it’s sharing a word of encouragement, an uplifting personal or news story, or information about a product or service that can make their lives easier, I love to brighten my readers' day.

How do you use technology in your everyday life?

As a WAHM, technology is such a huge part of my everyday life. I use it for just about everything: handling finances, managing schedules, communicating with my children’s teachers, staying abreast of current events, conducting meetings, keeping in touch with family and much more—all in addition to managing my blog.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, which Verizon device or accessory would you want with you and why?

It would have to be my Motorola Droid powered by the Verizon 4G LTE network. It keeps me both entertained and informed. I’ll be able to scroll though my extensive photo and video galleries, listen to my favorite songs and read some e-books to keep me occupied.

So far, what has been your favorite Verizon device/accessory that you’ve reviewed and why?

My favorite device that I have reviewed so far is the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. I love its sleek design, functionality, screen size and battery life. During my review, it came in handy for everything, from managing my blog to my teenage son turning in a school paper, to keeping my younger children entertained with movies and games. It was certainly very useful for the entire family. Also, the Verizon Jetpack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot MiFi was another favorite—its connection speed was beyond comparison.

Where do you predict technology will be in 10 years from now?

It's amazing to think of how much technology has evolved over the last 10 years. I see those great strides continuing in the years to come, with increases in devices and apps for life management on both a professional and personal scale. The goal of technology seems to be to make the word "inconvenience" obsolete. Ten years from now, I believe there will be an even wider variety of consumer products that will give people the convenience of managing a large number of tasks and responsibilities—possibly even simultaneously—with very minimal effort.

What’s your favorite part about living in the Midwest? St. Louis?

Living in the Midwest is awesome. I’ve always believed that it's the perfect blend of city and country life. I love St. Louis because it's heavily rooted in business and community. It's a city of movers and shakers: People who strive to balance career, family and leisure time. Everywhere you go in St. Louis, you can see technology is the driving force in the success of that balance. In addition to that, there is an atmosphere in the city that inspires you to be your best. I travel a lot and I’ve been to many places, and I can honestly say there is no place like St. Louis.
