American Indian Chamber of Commerce of California Honors Verizon for Its Commitment to Supplier Diversity

Verizon's commitment to supplier diversity and its support of the American Indian business community has earned the company the 2009 Warrior Award from the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of California.

Verizon was honored for partnering with the Chamber in advancing entrepreneurial education for American Indians through the Management Development for Entrepreneurs program at UCLA's Anderson School of Management, and for supporting the Youth EXPO, where the Chamber invites American Indian urban and reservation youth to learn about entrepreneurialism.

"We recognized Verizon for having the vision to find productive solutions that have led to a more vibrant American Indian business community," said Tracy Stanhoff, president of the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of California. "Increasing a diverse, qualified business base is good for the community, good for the economy and good for California."

Elva Lima, vice president of Verizon strategic programs, said, "Verizon's commitment to supplier diversity is as much about smart business as it is about doing the right thing.  This recognition by the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of California reinforces our commitment to supplier diversity and to the American Indian business community."
