When technology provider ARINC wanted to help the airport industry operate passenger check-in terminals more efficiently, it tapped Verizon for a new cloud-based solution that offers better economics and flexibility while requiring less capital.

Under a new five-year agreement that extends and deepens the companies' existing relationship, Verizon will provide ARINC with cloud services through Verizon's Terremark IT services subsidiary for the delivery of ARINC's flagship airline check-in solution, vMUSE Enterprise.

Using this new IT delivery model, ARINC will enable airports to eliminate on-site servers, high-bandwidth requirements, climate-controlled rooms and technical manpower required to run check-in services essential to airport operations. (See ARINC's related announcement.)

To accomplish this, long-time IT solutions provider Verizon worked with ARINC to develop a strategy that mapped to ARINC's overall business objectives, including its plans to expand into South America.  ARINC identified Verizon's leading enterprise-class cloud solution as a way to set itself apart from its competitors.

With Verizon's assistance, ARINC is moving its North American vMUSE Enterprise application to Terremark's Enterprise Cloud solution, which will be served from its Network Access Point (NAP) of the Americas in Miami.  ARINC also plans to locate its vMUSE Enterprise application in Terremark's NAP do Brazil in Sao Paolo, setting the groundwork for an IT services cloud-delivery model that can work effectively at any airport across the globe.

"Our relationship with Verizon gives us access to some of the best IT minds and now, coupled with its new Terremark cloud assets, ARINC is better equipped than ever to transform how IT services are delivered to the airline industry,"  said Michael Picco, vice president of ARINC Airport Systems. "In total, Verizon's leadership and vision are helping us to not only better our operating costs but also enhance our marketability."

In addition to helping ARINC better serve its customers, Verizon's cloud-based solution enables ARINC to avoid buying, maintaining and configuring the hardware and software needed to deliver its applications. The solution also allows for incredible scalability that can meet the fluctuations of ARINC's business, which is of vital importance to the travel industry.

As part of its focus, Verizon develops specific strategies and products for the travel industry.  With a heavy emphasis on mobility, personalization, security and efficiency, Verizon seeks to improve the travel experience, enabling companies to simplify operations and efficiently deliver multichannel content while lowering costs.
