Aziz to Direct Verizon Operations In Western New York Region

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Wajeeha H. Aziz has been named director of operations for Verizon Communications' Western New York region.

Aziz is responsible for the maintenance of more than 800,000 customer lines and the installation of new telecommunications services in a region stretching from the Pennsylvania border to the Canadian border. Her department includes more than 500 employees and an annual budget of about $50 million.

Most recently, Aziz served as a senior manager with Verizon's centralized installation and maintenance operations and was responsible for designing and implementing improvements in customer service. Prior to that she served as an area operations manager in Verizon's Queens, N.Y., installation and maintenance operations and was instrumental in the company receiving New York Public Service Commission commendations for customer service in Queens for three consecutive years.

Aziz earned a master's degree in finance from Wright State University in Ohio and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the New York Institute of Technology. She began working in 1987 for Verizon, then known as NYNEX, as an assistant manager in the design-engineering department in Patchogue, N.Y. She subsequently held positions in the company's cable splicing operations, as well as in business planning and financial analysis.

Aziz is the recipient of the Certificate in Leadership Development program at the National Leadership Institute. She is also a current member of Leadership Buffalo's First Impressions program.

Aziz lives in Williamsville with her husband, Dr. Akhtar Ashfaq, and sons, Asim and Hasan.
