Bell Atlantic And NYNEX Issue Joint Statement On FCC Letter

Philadelphia, Pa. and New York, N.Y., June 10, 1997 -- Bell Atlantic
(NYSE: BEL)and NYNEX (NYSE: NYN)today issued the following statement after
receiving a letter from the Federal Communications Commission regarding the agency's
review of the transfer of various licenses in connection with their proposed merger:

We received a letter this afternoon from the Federal Communications Commission that
signals the final phase of the agency's review of our merger.

The letter includes a seven-page list of documents to be produced by the companies.
All of the documents have previously been reviewed by the Department of Justice,
and most of them have also been reviewed by the FCC itself earlier in this proceeding.

The FCC has also established an expedited production, briefing and reply schedule,
with final comments due by June 26.

We will respond as quickly as possible to the agency's requests, and look forward
to its timely approval of our merger.
