Bell Atlantic Names Alexander H. Good Executive Vice President, Strategy and Corporate Development

H. Good to executive vice president, Strategy and Corporate
Development, from his current position as senior vice president,
Strategy, Corporate & Business Development. The promotion, approved
by the Bell Atlantic board of directors, is effective immediately.

Good, who will report to the Office of the Chairman and become a
member of Bell Atlantic's Management Executive Committee, will be
directly responsible for the corporation's strategic direction,
corporate development, market and competitive assessments, strategic
planning and international development.

Commenting on Good's appointment, Bell Atlantic Chairman and CEO
Raymond W. Smith said, "Since joining Bell Atlantic three years ago,
Alex has successfully led key initiatives which are changing the
direction of the new Bell Atlantic. Alex brings to his
responsibilities a track record of building businesses, a demonstrated
ability to envision and complete complex transactions, and an
entrepreneurial spirit. We are fortunate to have a proven executive
of Alex's caliber to spearhead our global and domestic initiatives as
we enter and win in an important new era of communications."

A California native, Good, 48, is a graduate of the University of
California, Berkeley, and received a J.D. from Loyola University
School of Law in 1975. He served as assistant secretary of the United
States Department of Commerce from 1985 to 1988, and brought
significant telecommunications experience with him when he joined Bell
Atlantic as president and CEO of Bell Atlantic International, Inc. in
1994.
