RICHMOND, Va. -- Bell Atlantic-Virginia today named Mike Rieley, its
Lynchburg manager, to assume responsibility for the Roanoke Valley.
Rieley will succeed Don Reid, who is retiring effective Nov. 21, 1997.

Reid leaves the company with 42 years of service, the last 10 of which
were as Bell Atlantic's area manager for Roanoke. He and his wife
plan to continue to live in the area.

Rieley, a 33-year veteran of Bell Atlantic, currently oversees Bell
Atlantic's service in a wide area that stretches from Danville in the
south through Lynchburg and Bedford to Staunton in the north. He will
continue with his current responsibilities while picking up the duties
in Roanoke. He plans to maintain offices in both Lynchburg and

Rieley, who grew up in Roanoke County and attended Northside High
School, has served in a variety of capacities since joining C&P
Telephone (now Bell Atlantic) in 1964 as a Frameman in Roanoke. In
1970, he was promoted to Roanoke Foreman, and he became Plant Manager
for Blacksburg in 1972. He became Lynchburg's Area Manager in 1990.

Rieley has served as president of the United Way of Central Virginia
and Interfaith Outreach Association, chairman of the Averett College
Board of Associates, the Virginia College Fund and the Vision 2001
awards committee. He is also a distinguished past president of the
Lynchburg Kiwanis Club.

Rieley has two adult children and lives in Bedford.
