BELL ATLANTIC'S KANAWHA VALLEY CUSTOMERS GET
INFOTIPS

Consumer Information Service Available in
New Kanawha-Putnam
Telephone
Directories

CHARLESTON, W.VA. -- Kanawha and Putnam county residents
now can get
helpful consumer information on hundreds of topics -- from wedding
planning to tax preparation -- by calling a toll-free telephone number
included in their new Bell Atlantic telephone directories.

The 24-hour-a-day interactive information service, called InfoTips(sm),
is listed at the beginning of more than 100 headings in the Yellow
Pages of the new Kanawha-Putnam Counties telephone directories, which
are being delivered from now through the end of April in the Kanawha
Valley.

InfoTips is easy to use. For example, a consumer who needs
information about buying a computer can look in the Bell Atlantic
Yellow Pages under the heading "Computer Dealers." By calling
the
InfoTips number and keying in the four-digit code for a category such
as What Do I Buy?, the consumer hears pertinent advice on buying a
computer.

"InfoTips is a value-added service that provides relevant
information
consumers need before they make a purchase," said Janice McDonald,
director of product development for Bell Atlantic Directory Services.
"Consumers can count on the Bell Atlantic Yellow Pages as a reliable
consumer information source on a wide variety of products and
services."

The consumer information is provided by 74 trade and professional
organizations and the Council for Better Business Bureaus.

InfoTips are sponsored by the businesses who provide the products and
services that correspond to the InfoTips headings. A sponsor's 15- to
20-second advertisement, which can be changed up to 26 times a year,
may follow the consumer information message. Consumers can connect
directly to the advertiser by dialing "0."

In addition to Kanawha and Putnam counties in West Virginia, InfoTips
is or will be available this year in Montgomery and Price George's
counties in Maryland; Wilmington, Del.; South Hampton Roads and
Richmond, Va.; the Baltimore area; Washington, D.C., and its northern
Virginia suburbs.

Bell Atlantic Corporation (NYSE: BEL) is at the forefront of the new
