Verizon Wireless and the Buffalo Bills announced today that the Sunday, October 27 collection of no-longer-used wireless phones at Ralph Wilson Stadium resulted in the donation of over 670 phones to benefit victims of domestic violence. Through Verizon Wireless' HopeLineSM program, these phones will be refurbished for donation to domestic violence victims, and/or recycled and sold with proceeds used to benefit and purchase phones for non-profit domestic violence organizations. Wireless phones provide victims of domestic violence with a means to call for help in a threatening situation.

"We would like to thank the Buffalo Bills, London Fletcher and especially the fans for their support of our HopeLine program and for the amazing response to this year's game-day collection to benefit victims of domestic violence," said John Palmer, president of Verizon Wireless' Upstate New York Region. "By doing something as simple as donating a wireless phone you no longer use, you have truly made a difference for a victim of domestic violence. Verizon Wireless appreciates the support of the Buffalo Bills and their community of fans to use wireless technology for this important purpose."

Every day, 5,000 women in the United States are assaulted by their partners. Verizon Wireless recognizes that domestic violence is a devastating epidemic and continues to focus resources on prevention. Phones donated to Verizon Wireless' HopeLine are refurbished, recycled or sold. Proceeds from phones sold are used to purchase phones for victims of domestic violence to use in emergency or threatening situations. Since 1995, Verizon Wireless has collected more than 790,000 wireless phones to benefit domestic violence victims. Over 320,000 of those have been collected since HopeLine's launch in October 2001.
