Customers Across the Country Begin Receiving Verizon-branded Phone Bills

NEW YORK - The Verizon name is coming soon to a mailbox near you.
Verizon Communications -- the national communications company formed by the merger of Bell Atlantic and GTE - is sending out some 60 million customer bills during August with the Verizon name and logo. The first set of bills will arrive at customer locations across the country as soon as today.

During August and September, customers will notice that the outer mailing envelope will have the message "Bell Atlantic is Now Verizon," or "GTE is Now Verizon." The bill itself will be branded Verizon only. Separate inserts accompanying the bill explain the merger and reassure customers they can continue to rely on Verizon for their communications needs.

"The monthly bill is a very personalized way Verizon communicates with our customers," said Janet Keeler, Verizon senior vice president for marketing services and brand management. "Our easy-to-read bill provides a clear indication that Verizon is the customer's communications company and that we will continue to provide to them the quality products and services they had relied on under the trusted Bell Atlantic and GTE names."

Keeler noted that maintaining the Bell Atlantic or GTE logo along with the new Verizon name on the front of the envelope will assist customers in recognizing that the envelope contains their monthly telephone bill. Other than the introduction of the Verizon name, the company has kept the look of the bill the same.

The Verizon-branded bills are part of a larger effort that began Aug. 1 to inform customers of the merged company's name. The 12-to-18-month effort will include a nationwide advertising campaign. In addition, name and logo changes are occurring on Verizon pay phones, directories, customer service materials, buildings, vehicles, Web sites - virtually everywhere the Bell Atlantic and GTE names are currently seen.

"We expect that as a result of our advertising and other branding activities - including the monthly bill -- customers very quickly will associate the Verizon brand name with quality, dedication, reliability and innovation," Keeler said.
