FrieslandCampina, one of the world's leading dairy cooperatives, has chosen Verizon Business to provide an Internet-protocol-based wide area network enabling the organization to maximize the benefits of a secure, streamlined data communications platform.

Verizon Private IP, a global MPLS network, will provide FrieslandCampina with fast and reliable links, including secure and simple remote access to business-critical applications, for workers that are in the office or on the road. FrieslandCampina is headquartered in Amersfoort, the Netherlands, with 21,000 employees, members and partners around the world.

Verizon Business' professional and managed security services teams are helping ensure a smooth transition to the new network environment. Verizon Business' managed security services will help further safeguard critical company data. The objective is to enable FrieslandCampina to quickly maximize the full potential of its new network infrastructure to enhance productivity and support business growth.

FrieslandCampina's daily business operations depend heavily on its network infrastructure, which connects the cooperative's 16,000-member dairy farms and production and sales sites in 27 global markets, supporting customer orders and global supply chain activities.  The company, formed in 2009 from the merger of Friesland Foods and Campina, inherited disparate networks and service providers, which were time-consuming and costly to manage. The cooperative decided to centralize its wide area network with a single supplier to realize cost and management efficiencies, improve performance and support global growth.

Nuria Simo, corporate CIO at FrieslandCampina, said: "Our business strategy is to be a truly global, innovative, reliable and flexible organization, and having a single global network to support our operations is central to our plan. Our new network will provide a secure foundation for future strategic projects as our business grows, such as the move to a global voice-over-IP (VoIP) environment, and other IP-enabled communications solutions. Verizon Business was selected based on the company's global reach and proven leadership in all our critical IT needs of network, security, solutions and services. In addition, as an existing supplier, the company already had proven its worth as a business partner, and had invested time to understand our business."

Jeff Rallet, regional sales vice president for continental Europe at Verizon Business, said: "FrieslandCampina is a good example of a complex organization that is recognizing and realizing the value of information technology solutions to drive business forward. By harnessing Verizon Business' mix of technology and security solutions, enterprises can really take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the global marketplace. FrieslandCampina is well on the road to realizing the benefits of this approach, and we look forward to supporting the cooperative's future business ambitions as it continues to grow."
