GoAmerica Extends Relationship With Verizon Wireless
GoAmerica will Offer High-Speed CDMA Wireless Service on Verizon Wireless' Express Network
March 20, 2002
GoAmerica, Inc. (NASDAQ: GOAM) a leading provider of wireless data solutions, and Verizon Wireless, a leading wireless network operator, today announced plans to offer Verizon Wireless' Express Network, based on 1XRTT CDMA technology, to its corporate customers. Extending a six-year relationship, GoAmerica will integrate its award-winning Go.Web™ technology with Verizon Wireless' CDMA high-speed data network to offer expanded capabilities in wireless data delivery. Earlier this year, GoAmerica successfully participated in a preview of the Verizon Wireless Express Network in anticipation of this development.
"Verizon Wireless has demonstrated its leadership by rolling out high speed access on its CDMA network," said Marty May, vice president of carrier relations. "In trials conducted on the Express Network earlier this year, GoAmerica experienced excellent response rates and speeds. We have worked closely with Verizon Wireless since our inception and are pleased to extend our relationship to bring this latest technology to our customers."
Verizon Wireless Express Network customers consistently experience rates between 40 - 60 kbps, and importantly, the Express Network demonstrated data speeds up to 144 Kbps. "The rollout of our Express Network is a major expression of our differentiation in the wireless marketplace: the high quality of our wireless network," said Verizon Wireless chief technical officer Dick Lynch. "We will continue the expansion of the Express Network, and by the close of 2002 the majority of the nearly 222 million covered Points of Population should be able to use the Express Network every day."
DJ Hulet, Vice President of Verizon Wireless' National Distribution, said, "Our relationship with GoAmerica, which first began in 1997 with CDPD services, is as strong and mutually-supportive as ever. As GoAmerica moves into providing services for high-speed data networks with products like Go.Web and Mobile Office, Verizon Wireless is looking forward to building upon our joint successes."
In beta trials earlier this year, GoAmerica confirmed that its award-winning Go.Web™ technology and Mobile Office® products integrate seamlessly with the Express Network. Go.Web compresses, reformats and encrypts data, enabling mobile professionals to access email, intranets and the Internet on a variety of wireless data devices and networks. Mobile Office, powered by Go.Web, provides the enterprise with secure wireless access to vital corporate data such as customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise resource planning (ERP) and sales force automation (SFA) applications. Customers using Mobile Office can open and read email attachments, access mission-critical documents and files for quick delivery via fax and email and access corporate communications and groupware applications.
GoAmerica expects to begin offering CDMA in the second quarter of 2002 and will continue to expand CDMA service on the Express Network in conjunction with Verizon Wireless' nationwide rollout.
