FiOS TV subscribers in the city now can watch governmental meeting coverage, city-related programming and other non-commercial television programming, with the addition of three government and public access channels to the FiOS TV lineup.

Verizon, which began offering its award-winning FiOS TV service in Pittsburgh in September 2009, recently added City Channel Pittsburgh, Public Safety Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Community Television (PCTV) ahead of a March 18 deadline.

City Channel Pittsburgh, located on channel 44, provides city residents with television coverage of the meetings of the City Council legislative and standing committees as well as meetings of the Pittsburgh School District Board of Education.  Public Safety Pittsburgh, on channel 45, provides important information for city residents about public safety issues.

PCTV, on channel 47, is a public access channel run by an independent nonprofit corporation that gives city residents the opportunity to produce non-commercial television programming to air on the channel.

Verizon offers Pittsburgh residents its FiOS TV service over its all-fiber-optic network and is the only company in the city connecting homes and businesses directly to fiber optics on a widespread scale.

FiOS TV offers a broad collection of programming, with more than 600 all-digital channels in Pittsburgh and 18,000 video-on-demand (VOD) titles each month - 70 percent of which are free.  Verizon's industry-leading VOD library also includes more than 2,800 HD titles per month.

In addition to FiOS TV, Verizon's fiber network also enables the company to offer consumers and businesses high-speed FiOS Internet service at download speeds up to 50 Mbps (megabits per second) and upload speeds up to 35 Mbps, and symmetrical download/upload speeds of 25/25 Mbps and 35/35 Mbps.* Verizon is the only company to offer symmetrical download/upload speeds.

Prices for the 24-month triple play of FiOS Internet, TV and home phone plans begin at $89.99 a month for customers who sign up online.  This amounts to a savings of $20 a month over regular prices and also applies to other FiOS triple-play bundles, including those with more HD options and unprecedented symmetrical Internet speeds of 35 Mbps or 25 Mbps. Details of additional packages can be found at www.verizon.com/bundles.

* NOTE: actual (throughput) speeds will vary.
