GTE licenses software to manage multi-service network in Malaysia

BOTHELL, Wash. -- GTE today announced it has licensed its WorldWin communications software to

Binariang Management Services Sdn Bhd for use in Malaysian wireless, wireline, international

gateway and cable television networks. In these applications, WorldWin will manage network and

customer-service functions supporting a full-range of state-of the-art telecommunications services.

Authorized by the Malaysian Government to develop of a full range of 21st century communications

services in Malaysia, Binariang is building a fully integrated infrastructure that will incorporate the

nation's first satellite system (MEASAT), a fixed wireline network based on a hybrid architecture, an

international gateway and a fully digital mobile communications network. This infrastructure will be

the backbone of Binariang's multimedia service to be offered under the service name, Maxis, designed

to meet the communications, entertainment and information needs of business and residential

customers throughout Malaysia.

WorldWin Meets Binariang's Service-Management Needs

"GTE's WorldWin was selected because it is an integration-rich solution that meets Binariang's core

service-management needs," said Paul Freeman, general manager of information systems for

Binariang. "Moreover, WorldWin handles our multiple lines of business, and integrates with our

existing service and business management systems. WorldWin expands our capabilities, lowers our

cost structure and improves our time to market."

Binariang's GSM and wireline networks are already deployed, and the company will be using

WorldWin to launch its cable network this year.
