MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - ICSA Labs, an independent division of Verizon Business, announced Monday (Oct. 22) that it has certified four products that use the newly enhanced Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) Virtual Private Network standard that helps validate the user or device, using the new key exchange protocol IKEv2.

VPN products earning ICSA Labs' IPSec VPN 2.1 Certification are Alcatel-Lucent's VPN Firewall Brick 1200AC; Intoto Inc. iGateway-VPN; Secure Computing Sidewinder 7; and SonicWALL's PRO 2040 Network Security Appliance.

The new IPsec VPN standard is designed to help vendors develop new IPsec solutions that deliver more functionality, improved interoperability and stronger security.  The new standard also addresses interoperability issues often encountered when companies link VPN solutions developed by different vendors.  ICSA Labs' IPSec VPN Version 2.1 Certification reinforces a vendor's commitment to maintaining data confidentiality and integrity for solutions being deployed under that standard.

The IPSec VPN testing methodology employed by ICSA Labs is the result of several years of research, real-world scenarios, vendor cooperation and end-user feedback.  Vendor products must meet baseline requirements for the IKEv2 protocol, including Encapsulation Security Payload, tunnel mode, AES encryption, DH Group 5 and proper deletion of security associations.

ICSA Labs also verifies that the products implement secure cryptography through logging and secure administration.

"ICSA Labs is uniquely positioned to evaluate these products because our testing process is dynamic," said George Japak, managing director, ICSA Labs. "Our testing methodology and evaluation techniques stay current with product enhancements and the ever-changing threat environment."

Mike Gallagher, senior vice president of product development and support at Secure Computing, said, "Secure Computing is pleased to be one of the first companies to achieve ICSA Labs' IPSec IKEv2 certification.  Sidewinder is known for its commitment to excellence and staying ahead of the curve on standards.  Earning this certification demonstrates that Sidewinder includes interoperability and feature richness.  We commend ICSA Labs for holding vendors to a high standard and certifying those products that provide standards-based interoperability."

Sathyan Iyengar, CEO, Intoto, said, "ICSA Labs' stringent vendor-neutral testing and certification is essential for the market. Intoto is committed to meeting high standards so that we can deliver solutions that are fully interoperable to our customers."

Jon Kuhn, director of product management, SonicWALL, said, "SonicWALL is excited to be among the first vendors to obtain ICSA Labs' certification of our next-generation IKEv2 VPN technology, which provides a highly secure and reliable connectivity solution for our customers."

Michel Emelianoff, Alcatel-Lucent vice president of security for enterprise activities, said, "Earning ICSA Labs' 2.1 IPSec VPN Certification on Alcatel-Lucent's VPN Firewall Brick product line demonstrates our commitment to staying ahead of changing industry requirements and standards."

The ICSA Labs IPSec VPN Certification program is an independent and comprehensive process that rigorously tests, assesses and validates IPsec VPNs in a simulated, real-world environment.  In conjunction with the completion of the initial round of the IPSec IKEv2 product certifications, ICSA Labs has released version 2.1 of the IPSec Certification Testing Criteria.
