Kids From Three Queens Organizations Take to the Field With Mets Players at Citi Field

More than 60 lucky youngsters from three Queens organizations will take the field along with two New York Mets players as part of the Verizon Promo Day at Citi Field on Sunday (Aug. 15.)

The youngsters, aged 7 to 12 years old, are from the Chinese-American Planning Council in Flushing, and La Asociación Benéfica Cultural Father Billini and the Dominico-American Society of Queens, both based in Corona.

The youngsters, who will be accompanied by their parents or guardians, will receive tips and instructions on hitting, fielding, throwing and base running from two Mets players; they'll get refreshments after the clinic; and they'll have their pictures taken with the Mets players.  Following the afternoon clinic and other activities, they'll attend the Mets game that evening against the Philadelphia Phillies.

"Our kids are really looking forward to this wonderful lifetime experience with some of their favorite Mets player," said Jose Tejada, executive director of the Dominico-American Society of Queens. "We thank Verizon for getting our kids involved in this event that is sure to make a positive impact on their lives."

Said David Chen, executive director of the Chinese-American Planning Council: "These kinds of events mean so much to our kids. This will be a learning experience and a fun event for them.  They will like it."

As part of the Verizon Promo Day, the company will hand out commemorative items to fans as they enter the game.
