PITTSBURGH - Starting today, Verizon customers in Hooversville can enjoy toll-free calling to Somerset due to the expansion of Hooversville's local calling area.

All telephone calls from Hooversville's 798 exchange to Somerset exchanges 443, 444 and 445 are now local calls. Previously, Hooversville customers' local calling area only included telephone exchanges in Boswell, Johnstown and Stoystown.

Verizon expanded the local calling area for Hooversville customers based on the results of a poll of Hooversville customers conducted earlier this year. More than 85 percent of the customers who participated in the polling voted in favor of expanding the local calling area to include Somerset.

The expanded service to Somerset will result in a monthly increase for residential and business unlimited calling packages. Residential customers' new rate will be $13.78 per month for Unlimited Local Service, an increase of $1.05. The new rate for Unlimited Local Service for business customers will be $34.83, an increase of $4.20. However, the total bill for Hooversville customers who frequently call Somerset exchanges may actually be lower since they no longer will incur per-minute toll charges for those calls.

Customers with questions about the expansion of Hooversville's local calling area or who would like to choose a different calling plan may call Verizon toll-free at 1-800-483-4000 (for residential customers) or 1-800-483-5000 (for business customers).
