Local Student Wins Competition, Designs New NYNEX Change Card&regsize>

NEW YORK, NY -- Kevin Charles, a seventh-semester student at the Fashion Institute
of Technology in Manhattan, has received $5,000 as the winner
of the NYNEX Change Card Design Competition on the theme, "World
Peace '96." Mr. Charles, 21, of Jamaica, Queens, is an advertising
design major at FIT. He submitted the winning design from among
more than 100 entries that were displayed at TeleCard World '95,
the country's largest telephone calling card expo, held in late
September in New York City. Expo attendees cast the deciding votes.

The design -- depicting a bird on a branch with the caption, "World
peace for 1996" -- will appear on 15,000 NYNEX Change Cards
in $5 denominations, which can be used at 1,000 special yellow
pay phones throughout New York City. NYNEX Change Cards are also
sold and traded as collectors' items. A thousand of the cards
will include the designer's signature.

NYNEX is issuing the "World Peace '96" cards this month,
and they can be ordered by calling 1-800-545-EASY (3279). "Kevin's
design was selected from among the work of some of the most talented
young artists in New York City," said Dave Napolitan, director
- Public Communications Marketing. "NYNEX is proud and happy
to be able to encourage local artists in this way."
