ROANOKE, Va. - More consumers and businesses in communities in the Roanoke area now have access to Verizon High Speed Internet, allowing them to quickly download movies, share photos or video with friends and family, and create their own Internet content.

With the recent installation of equipment serving 1,500 lines in the Cave Spring and Salem areas, Verizon has upgraded more than 70 sites in the region for High Speed Internet service, based on broadband DSL technology.

Verizon High Speed Internet service now is available to many consumers and small businesses in the following communities: Roanoke, Salem, Vinton, Bonsack, Hollins, Masons Cove, Cave Spring, Garden City, Poages Mill, Bent Mountain and Glenvar.

"Verizon is enabling more residents across Virginia to make the high-speed connections that are important to them," said Robert W. Woltz Jr., president of Verizon Virginia.  "Verizon's ongoing, significant investment in Virginia means that many more communities have access to affordable and reliable high-speed Internet service, backed by the Verizon network and thousands of skilled, knowledgeable Verizon employees."

Qualified Verizon phone customers who order Verizon High Speed Internet service online by Jan. 5, 2008, with a connection speed of up to 768 Kbps (kilobits per second)* with a two-year commitment, will pay $14.99 a month for as long as they subscribe to the same price-for-life plan. The same plan applies to Verizon's up to 3 Mbps (megabits per second) service, which is available online for $27.99 a month.

In addition to deploying broadband technology, Verizon earlier this year introduced several packages that enable customers to bundle a Verizon Freedom calling plan with unlimited calling, all-digital DIRECTV in-home video service, Verizon High Speed Internet service where available, and Verizon Wireless service.  This provides additional savings - all on one bill from a name customers trust.

With Verizon Double Freedom, customers can choose Verizon's most popular unlimited calling plan, known as Verizon Freedom Essentials, and combine it with Verizon High Speed Internet service up to 3 Mbps or with DIRECTV service billed through Verizon.  Each two-service combination is priced from $69.99 to $74.99 a month, depending on the combination of services purchased.

Verizon Triple Freedom links a combination of the Freedom Essentials calling plan and Verizon High Speed Internet (up to 3 Mbps) with DIRECTV service for only $99.99 a month.  And, for $139.99 a month, Verizon Ultimate Freedom adds to the bundle a Verizon Wireless calling plan with 450 anytime minutes, Unlimited Night and Weekend Minutes and Unlimited IN Calling, with free calling between a wireless phone and a customer's home landline.
