SANTA CLARA, Calif. and NEW YORK - To help businesses improve the security of their computers and communications, Network Associates, Inc. (NYSE: NET), a leader in intrusion prevention solutions, and Verizon (NYSE: VZ), one of the world's leading providers of communications services, today announced the launch of Verizon Desktop Security Services.

Verizon will offer Network Associates' McAfee Online Security Services, including desktop anti-virus and desktop firewall. Part of the Verizon Business Internet Security family of services, these products are designed to help businesses improve the security of their computers and their communications.

As the complexity and frequency of virus threats continue to grow, businesses must maintain up-to-date security solutions to protect themselves against the latest security vulnerabilities. According to research firm Computer Economics, this year's Lovsan, Sobig.f and Nachi attacks will have caused over $12.5 billion in damages and lost productivity globally by the end of the year.

Verizon Desktop Security Services provides even small and medium-sized businesses the high level of security found in software and hardware solutions traditionally available only to large enterprises, managed round the clock by McAfee--a recognized leader in the Internet security field.

"Growing businesses often do not have the resources or time to maintain security solutions. They want to deploy a solution and forget about it so they can concentrate on their business," said Eric Cevis, vice president wholesale and business markets at Verizon. "That's why more and more businesses are turning to us to help provide protection against the many threats lurking on the Internet."

Verizon Desktop Security Services, part of Verizon Business Internet Security Services, have the flexibility and scale to meet the needs of the smallest one-computer operation to more sophisticated network applications. The services, powered by McAfee Online Security Services, include desktop firewall and anti-virus protection.

"Security solutions are only as good as their last update, and they must be continuously updated to protect against the latest virus threats. The constant updates can be daunting, especially for the IT administrator at a small or growing business," said Todd Gebhart, vice president of sales at the McAfee Systems Technology group at Network Associates. "Network Associates is focused on partnering with service providers to protect businesses, and we are pleased that Verizon turned to us to help secure their business customers."

The Desktop Firewall monitors, controls and logs a computer's network activity, preventing unauthorized data flow from or to another computer or network. Desktop Anti-Virus is a software service that provides continuous protection of desktop environments and infrastructures against both known and unknown viruses, as well as Web attacks and e-mail intrusions. Each of these online security solutions provides round-the-clock protection, with automated updates to protect against new threats.
