NEW YORK - Verizon today announced that Patrick Gaston, a 19-year company veteran who currently serves as the company's executive director for strategic alliances in Washington, D.C., has been named president of Verizon Foundation.
Gaston will oversee the foundation, which serves as the philanthropic arm of the corporation, providing grants and developing programs to support the communities where Verizon does business. Verizon Foundation ranks as one of the largest corporate foundations in America and places special emphasis on literacy, work force development and the use of technology for the benefit of all people. In 2003, the foundation donated $70 million to worthy causes and charities, including matching nearly $14 million in donations from Verizon employees nationwide.
Gaston is succeeding Suzanne DuBose, who recently left the company. He will report to Mary Beth Bardin, executive vice president-public affairs and communications. The appointment is effective immediately.
Gaston, 46, joined Verizon in 1984 and has held a variety of management positions in operations, marketing, human resources, strategic planning and government relations. Gaston, who was raised in Boston, holds a bachelor's degree in management from the University of Massachusetts and a master's in business administration from Northeastern University. He currently resides in Alexandria, Va.
Gaston is currently a member of the board of directors of the following organizations: the NAACP Board of Trustees and Generations United, the National Latino Children's Institute, America's Charities, the Foundation of the University of West Indies, and the World Institute on Disability.
