Shirley Bloomfield Joins Verizon Washington Office

WASHINGTON - Veteran legislative and government relations specialist Shirley Bloomfield joins Verizon's federal relations office this week as vice president of federal government relations.  She comes to her new post after nearly two years at Qwest, where she ran its Washington office.

Reporting to Peter Davidson, Verizon senior vice president of federal government relations, Bloomfield will focus her efforts on U.S. Senate activities and rural telecommunications policy.

Before joining Qwest, Bloomfield ran the advocacy shop at the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association.  She began her Capitol Hill career with House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey and later worked for two chairmen of the House Budget Committee, Reps. William Gray and Jim Jones.

"Shirley Bloomfield is a great addition to Verizon," Davidson said.  "Her congressional and corporate policy experience will greatly enhance our efforts.  She is highly experienced and respected in Washington."

Bloomfield, a native of Wisconsin, holds an economics degree from Northwestern University and masters in public administration from American University.

"This is an exciting time to join Verizon and to work in Washington," Bloomfield said.  "Verizon has a big vision for the future of broadband and technology, and a new administration and Congress are just getting under way."
