BOSTON -- Today marks the debut of a commemorative plaque
that serves as a permanent reminder of South Station's 100-year
anniversary as a transportation center for the people of Boston. The plaque
can be viewed by the nearly 100,000 daily commuters that walk through
South Station's main concourse.

The new plaque was unveiled by Robert H. Prince, Jr., General Manager
for MBTA, Maryann Gilligan Suydam, Director of Property
Management, Equity Office Properties Trust, and Stevan Brinkert, Vice
President of New England Sales Bell Atlantic Yellow Pages.

"Bell Atlantic is honored to be a part of South Station's centennial
year," said Brinkert. "Over the years South Station has
significantly contributed to how area residents work and live. This
historical plaque will forever recognize the station's evolution to an active
multi-modal transportation center for the people of Massachusetts."

The brass plaque is 54 inches high by 36 inches wide and is imprinted in
black. The historical plaque is sponsored by Equity Office, MBTA and
Bell Atlantic Yellow Pages. The installation follows South Station's
Centennial Celebration held on January 19, 1999, and co-sponsored by
Bell Atlantic Yellow Pages, kicking off a year of festivities.
