NEW YORK - Verizon is making the summer more entertaining for FiOS TV customers.

With higher gas prices and a weaker dollar causing many Americans to stay home, Verizon is offering a special discount to new FiOS TV customers when they subscribe to the Movie Package, which includes more than 40 channels from Showtime, Starz, The Movie Channel, Encore, Sundance Channel and IFC, as well as access to hundreds of video-on-demand (VOD) titles.

"Families choosing to spend less on travel and gasoline this summer and more on home entertainment owe it to themselves to check out the best value in TV," said Shawn Strickland, Verizon's vice president of video solutions.  "The best picture and an incredibly diverse lineup of programming and channels now come with a big discount on some of the major movie channels and our Home Media DVR, along with free movie passes."

New FiOS TV subscribers who enroll between now and July 19 will be eligible to sign up for Verizon's Summer Movie Pass, which includes four free VOD selections and 90 days of free access to the Movie Package.  In addition, the Summer Movie Pass will offer customers an upgrade to the Home Media DVR at the price of an HD DVR for 90 days.

FiOS TV's Home Media DVR service offers a multi-room DVR feature enabling up to three simultaneous viewings of recorded programs on different television sets without requiring customers to set up a complex home network or buy extra equipment.  Customers also can access photos and music on their PCs and play them on their TV.

Verizon FiOS TV, delivered over 100 percent advanced fiber optics straight to the home, offers more than 400 all-digital channels, including approximately 30 high-definition (HD) channels in most markets, and access to more than 10,000 on-demand titles, 70 percent of which are free.  The VOD library also now includes an increasing number of high-definition titles, with 1,000 HD VOD titles per month by the end of the year.

Verizon announced last week that its FiOS TV customers will get even more great programming this summer as Verizon adds more than 60 new channels to the lineup, including HD, sports and multicultural content.  By the end of the year, Verizon plans to expand its lineup to offer all available major HD programming.

FiOS TV is currently available to more than 6.5 million homes in 13 states.  In the less than three years since the service first launched, the company has signed up more than 1.2 million FiOS TV customers who enjoy hundreds of digital video and music channels, high-definition linear and on-demand programming, the nation's largest collection of video-on-demand content, a robust interactive media guide, and other advanced features.  For more information on FiOS TV, visit http://www.verizon.com/fiostv.
