ATHENS, Greece -- Stet Hellas Telecommunications SA announced today:

  • Total number of customers reached 1,182,751, which represents an increase of 71.8% of the customer base on the previous year.
  • Net additions for 1999 increased by 66% compared to the previous year.
  • 147,931 net additions in Telestet customers during the fourth quarter of 1999, an increase of 38.5% compared to the third quarter of the year.
  • Of the total customer base, 733,470 (62%) are B-free customers; 449,281 (38%) are contract subscribers

During the last quarter of the year Telestet capitalized on a strong marketing policy, that focused on segmentation and controlled handset subsidies. It launched two exclusive tariff plans for its pre-paid product B Free, namely Morning Talk and Afternoon. Telestet boosted even more the growth of pre-paid by being the only operator in Greece that offers roaming service in pre-paid, currently covering 75 countries all over the world.

Telestet innovative exclusivities include GSM Banking industry-leading application - in collaboration with the National Bank of Greece - as well as a series of on-line info services (weather forecast, sports results, lottery results etc) accessed by SMS. Under the same on-line concept Telestet also introduced mobile fax and mobile e-mail via SMS.
