Training Magazine Ranks Verizon's Training Programs for Employees as Among the Best in the U.S.
NEW YORK - Verizon's commitment to training and investing in the education and professional development of its employees has been recognized by Training magazine. The publication ranked Verizon No. 15 on this year's Training Top 125 list of companies that have the best training programs for their employees.
Over the past few years, Verizon's employee development, education and training budget has totaled approximately $1 billion.
Verizon employees logged more than 11 million training hours last year alone to advance their knowledge of a wide range of key issues including compliance, privacy and security; to learn new management techniques; and to develop the skills needed to deliver the nation's most advanced broadband networks to customers.
Also in 2008, the company invested $117 million in the education of its employees through its tuition assistance program, which pays 100 percent of approved tuition and fees, up to $8,000 per employee per year, at accredited institutions.
"Verizon is committed to building next-generation networks and delivering the best customer service," said Magda Yrizarry, vice president for workplace culture, diversity and compliance at Verizon. "To deliver on that commitment, we make significant investments in the skills and development of our employees that benefit our customers and create opportunities for the personal and professional development of our team."
A premier publication in the training industry, Training magazine annually honors organizations, based on in-depth analyses of qualitative and quantitative elements of training programs. The judging is based on elements such as corporate universities, evaluation procedures and internal best practices.
