NEW YORK -- Two key executives at Verizon will assume expanded roles following today’s announced agreement to spin off, and then merge, the company’s operations in three New England states with FairPoint Communications.  The two executives are Edward Dinan, president – Verizon Maine, and Paula Brown, regional president – Verizon New Hampshire/Vermont.

As a first step toward the merger with FairPoint, Verizon will create a new division composed of its local phone operations in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Ed Dinan will become general manager-Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont.  As president – Verizon Maine, Dinan has led the business in that state since 1992.  He will be responsible for leading the implementation of the transition plan in the three states in preparation for the merger with FairPoint.   After the merger closes, Dinan is expected to remain with the new company in this leadership position.

Polly Brown is being named regional president for the three-state area.  An experienced telecom executive, Brown has served as regional president - Northern New England with responsibilities for New Hampshire and Vermont since January 2004.   Although her job title will not change, Brown will assume responsibilities for Maine as well.   Brown will represent Verizon interests in the northern New England territory until the merger with FairPoint is complete.   She is expected to remain with Verizon.
