Verizon and Franklin Township Community and Senior Center Team Up to Promote Internet Safety for Adults Aged 50 and Older

Verizon and the Franklin Township Community and Senior Center teamed up Thursday (Aug. 6) to promote Internet safety for adults aged 50 and older.  New Jersey Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula participated with Verizon officials in a forum that was held at the Franklin Township Community and Senior Center in Somerset.

"Providing a safe online environment for New Jersey families, particularly those with older adults, is a priority for Verizon," said Dennis Bone, president, Verizon New Jersey.  "We are proud to partner with the Franklin Township Community and Senior Center and Assemblyman Chivukula to bring this valuable information to the community and to help ensure that seniors have enjoyable online experiences."

Chivukula spoke about his commitment to Internet safety, particularly for New Jersey seniors.

"The Internet provides many benefits including education and entertainment, and more and more seniors using this valuable tool," he said.  "However, as technology continues to advance, it is critical that all New Jersey citizens, including seniors, have the knowledge and tools so they can continue to use the Internet safely and confidently."

Duffy Knoll, assistant general counsel for Verizon, gave a presentation on how seniors can safely take advantage of all the benefits of broadband and the Internet.  He highlighted the online risks facing seniors today, and the ways to help avoid falling victim to Internet scams and other dangers.
