Verizon Business Helps Companies Fine-Tune Business Applications Running on Global Corporate Networks

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. - Verizon Business is helping users of corporate networks make the most of popular business applications.

Verizon Business announced today its new Managed WAN Optimization Service. The new managed service enables Verizon Business' professional services staff to fine-tune networks for customers so that widely used applications such as Microsoft Outlook, SAP and ERP are delivered more quickly to end-users locally or around the globe. The optimization service is ideal for customers with distributed or global environments, or both, that require standard performance of corporate applications across all company sites.

Companies today are often faced with poor performing applications caused by multiple factors -- including rogue applications on a network, bandwidth for non-business use, replication and data backups -- that can lead to long transaction times, lowered productivity or an inability of workers to access applications.

"Our commitment and capabilities extend beyond the network to the vital applications that ride on it," said Nancy Gofus, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Business. "We work hand-in-hand with customers to deliver a world-class customer experience and to help them manage their networks and maintain continuous access to their business-critical applications."

Verizon Business focuses on the performance of customer applications starting with the network layer, using metrics such as throughput, quality of service (QoS) and application volume. This is different from traditional measures of performance, which primarily center on customer premises equipment (CPE) uptime. Verizon Managed WAN Optimization Service provides visibility into applications on the customer's network, enhances performance of mission-critical applications, and fine-tunes the network to maintain performance.

"As more companies move their applications online, application performance over distance becomes a critical factor for the business function," said Counse Broders, an analyst with Current Analysis. "Verizon Business is positioning its portfolio to help when customers are looking for ways to better manage their applications. This new service is a step toward easing the private space performance concerns of enterprises."

The Verizon Managed WAN Optimization Service uses Juniper Networks WXC platform, a highly scalable WAN acceleration solution for distributed environments. This innovative technology helps to accelerate applications without adding additional bandwidth or physical upgrades to the networks.  Verizon Business' award-winning IMPACT network management platform provides the foundation for the automation and careful monitoring of customer applications.

Monthly Performance Analysis Included

The new service provides customers with a monthly performance and trend analysis.  Tapping into Verizon Business' 1,500-plus professional services staff, the company's Application Analysts provide ongoing reporting with status updates on how a customer's applications are performing.

The service is ideal for customers in the retail, financial, government and manufacturing sectors that must deliver corporate applications across the country or across the globe where distance can impact latency and performance.

For example, customers in the retail industry frequently rely on inventory management, supply chain management, accounts payable/receivables, CRM/call center and human capital applications that need to be served across great distances with high availability and great reliability.

Enterprises interested in using this type of technology to speed applications to end-users should ask themselves the following questions.

  • What applications currently run across my networks?

  • What applications are critical to my business operations?

  • What do my end-users say about the performance of applications like e-mail?

  • Are the deployments of new business applications having an impact on the network?

If an organization doesn't know the answers to any of these questions, it may be time to consider Verizon Managed WAN Optimization Service.

The new service joins Verizon Business' robust suite of Application and Performance Management solutions. They are part of Verizon Business solutions that help improve application performance at either the server or the network level.

These solutions, which can be delivered as stand-alone or mixed and matched with other offerings, help companies assess applications on their networks, measure the impact of applications on their networks, and optimize their applications and networks to run more efficiently.

In addition, the offerings secure enterprise applications to maintain data integrity and help customers manage applications and networks to meet their business and IT goals. Verizon Business supports its delivery of applications and performance management capabilities with its world-class professional services staff.
