Verizon Donates $27,000 to Disaster Relief Efforts in Dominican Republic and Haiti

NEW YORK - To help the victims of recent torrential rains, flooding and landslides in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, the Verizon International Foundation today donated $27,000 to the American Red Cross.
"The damages to the region are catastrophic, and the devastating floods and landslides have left tens of thousands in need of support," said Jorge Ivan Ramirez, president of Verizon Dominicana. "The American Red Cross will use this gift to assist with critical water sanitation efforts for the people and communities affected by this disaster."
The Verizon International Foundation is also encouraging employee donations to assist with relief efforts. The foundation will match registered employee donations to qualified nonprofit agencies providing assistance to the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
The $27,000 includes $2,000 donated on behalf of Verizon Dominicana employees who also contributed water, clothes and non-perishables. Verizon Communications owns 100 percent of the company, which is the largest telecommunications provider in the Dominican Republic.
