Verizon DSL to Power Web-On-Site Public Internet Stations

NEW YORK - Consumers will get to experience the speed and convenience of high-speed Internet access at free Web-On-Site Internet stations powered by Verizon Online's DSL (digital subscriber line) service in public areas in Baltimore, Md. and Washington, D.C.

Web-On-Site provides content providers and advertisers an innovative approach to reaching offline audiences by bringing the Internet to out-of-home venues through the company's nationwide network of Internet stations. Verizon Online is providing its DSL service for the Internet stations, which are expected to be in more than 200 locations in the Baltimore/Washington and Philadelphia metro areas by year's end, including restaurants, pubs, hotels and sports arenas.

With Verizon Online DSL, Web-On-Site users will see the best the Internet has to offer at connection speeds up to 11 times faster than a 56K modem connection. The Web-On-Site Internet stations showcase content from a number of broadband-focused companies that are leveraging Verizon Online DSL to provide a more dynamic and efficient Internet experience.

The Web-On-Site stations will allow users to input their phone number to see if Verizon Online DSL is available on their phone line. If it is, they can order their service using the Web-On-Site terminal.

Verizon Online recently dropped the price of its most popular DSL plans for consumers and businesses by 20 percent. In markets on the northeastern and mid-Atlantic states, Verizon Online Personal DSL, for consumers, is now $39.95 a month and Verizon Online Personal DSL Plus, for small businesses, is $49.95 a month. And new customers can now get started for free, with a free modem offer from the company through Dec. 31. Both packages include Verizon Online Internet access and feature connection speeds up to 640 kilobits per second (Kbps) with unlimited use.

As with all Verizon Online DSL service, users can stay on as long as they want -- there's no re-dialing and no busy signals. With one click of the mouse, you're there. DSL also enables users to talk on the same line or send a fax while they're online.
