Verizon has earned the ISO 9001: 2008 certification for its Converged Security Operations Center. This quality-management certification is awarded to organizations that meet the rigorous criteria for assuring quality in the products or services they provide their customers.

The CSOC provides premier business and government customers with managed security services such as real-time monitoring and management of security devices and applications, including firewalls; anti-virus; network intrusion detection and prevention; content screening; and vulnerability management.

"Achieving ISO 9001:2008 certification sharpens our focus on continual improvement of service efficiency and effectiveness, which gives us an advantage serving our customers and maintaining our competitive edge in the global marketplace," said Wesley Sobbott, director of global security operations for Verizon.

By applying best practices and providing a means to measure and deliver quality to reduce inconsistencies, ISO certification helps strengthen performance in the CSOC. Using the internationally recognized standard for quality-management practices, ISO certification also helps improve the customer experience with a systematic approach to managing processes and procedures.

Verizon's CSOC, located in Cary, N.C., earned the ISO 9001: 2008 quality-management certification after passing an independent assessment conducted by UL DQS, an internationally recognized ISO auditor. The ISO 9001:2008 certification is valid for three years, with audits performed every year by UL DQS.

Verizon has a global quality-management system built upon ISO 9001:2008 standards that provide guidelines for establishing and implementing quality policies for the company. The company has more than 55 different ISO-certified internal organizations, including those compliant with ISO 9001:2008, ISO 20000-1:2005 and ISO 27001:2005.
