Verizon Executive Named One of '25 Influential Black Women in Business'

NEW YORK -- Verizon's Andrea L. Custis has been named one of "25 Influential Black Women in Business" by The Network Journal, a black professionals and small-business magazine. Custis, group president for sales and marketing for Verizon's Advanced Services unit, is being recognized for her professional achievements, outstanding community service and strong leadership skills.

The 25 women will be honored today during Women's History Month at The Network Journal's fourth annual achievement awards luncheon at the New York Hilton Hotel and Towers in New York City.

"Women like Andrea Custis and our other honorees are in the forefront of American leadership and symbolize the diversity and advancement that has occurred across industry lines," said Aziz Gueye Adetimirin, The Network Journal publisher. "Their accomplishments inspire and motivate an innumerable number of women of color."

Custis is on the Board of Directors for the Better Business Bureau -- New York and the Board of Governors for the Academy of Applied Electrical Science, a partner of Philadelphia Academies Inc. She is a member of Verizon's Consortium of Information and Telecommunication Executives and Hispanic Support Organization employee groups. Custis has been involved in the NAACP and the Delaware Valley Childcare Council.

At Verizon, Custis is responsible for the sales, marketing and customer service strategy for the company's Internet and broadband services businesses that span 31 states and the District of Columbia. Previously, Custis served as vice president -- premium segment for Verizon Enterprise Solutions with responsibility for all aspects of service delivery including installation, maintenance, service and project management and call center productivity to enterprise customers.
