Verizon Global Wholesale has added powerful enhancements to many of its Private IP processes, giving customers better ordering, monitoring and reporting options for this highly scalable, network-based service.

These enhancements include new monitoring options that give wholesale customers an improved view into statistics that reflect the health of their network. As a result, customers now have a view of network traffic from the circuit connection to the provider edge, providing an end-to-end look.

New speeds and new interconnection choices have also been added and, as a result, Verizon Global Wholesale has improved its provisioning process and order forms to reflect these additions. Customers will now find a more streamlined experience when ordering and provisioning Private IP (PIP) services.

"With these new enhancements, wholesale customers can effectively manage and scale their network to meet their most demanding needs," said Mark Heinold, marketing director for Verizon Global Wholesale. "Combine that with our global reach and extensive experience in the IP market and we're giving our customers an edge in this extremely competitive market."

Verizon's PIP service relies on a dedicated private multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) core on a completely autonomous network, providing customers with high levels of network quality and reliability. Functioning as a network-based Virtual Private Network, PIP provides the foundation for automating business processes such as e-commerce and shared extranets or intranets.

Verizon also offers service-level metrics that are measured on each "hop" (segments on the network route) as opposed to a network average.

Verizon's PIP service, now offered in more than 120 countries, supports applications such as conferencing, Voice over IP, point of sale transactions and multicasting VPNs.

In 2010, Nermertes Research recognized Verizon as Top Provider among Market Leaders of Carrier Ethernet and MPLS services.
