TAMPA, Fla. -- Verizon Information Technologies Inc., a Verizon (NYSE: VZ) subsidiary, and Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW), will work together to deliver data-center operations to medium-sized enterprise businesses, using the Sun platform of services and hosting the applications at Verizon facilities. The two companies will jointly market a new portfolio of managed infrastructure hosting services.

In addition to this effort, Verizon Information Technologies and its ISO 9002 certified Enterprise Outsourcing Services infrastructure and processes have achieved certification under the SunToneSM Certification and Branding program services. Verizon Information Technologies will deliver managed infrastructure services through its data centers located in Tampa, Fla., Sacramento, Calif., and Fort Wayne, Ind.

"As businesses grow, there's a positive correlation between the complexity of their processes and the complexity of their infrastructure. That's why combining the Sun platform with our scalable infrastructure is ideal for mid-sized businesses," said Mike Luebke, president of Verizon Information Technologies. "The SunTone certification of our Enterprise Outsourcing Services underscores our commitment to the highest quality solutions and services to our customers. We're proud to have received this industry-based quality 'seal of approval.'"

To achieve SunTone certification, Sun examined Verizon Information Technologies' Enterprise Outsourcing Service's network infrastructure, platforms, applications, procedures, security and operations to ensure they met the industry's best practices for availability, capacity and competency for enterprise-based services.

"The number one issue for customers seeking to outsource their enterprise solutions is the credibility of the provider," said Tom Bruno, CEO of Eisner Technology Solutions, LLC, a Verizon Information Technologies client. "The SunTone Certification is yet another in a long list of credentials that make Verizon's data center the industry's best and a perfect complement to Eisner's outsourcing offerings. As a leading enterprise ASP (application service provider) and a Verizon customer, Eisner's mid-sized customers are realizing the benefits of SunTone Certified ASP solutions that are secure, scalable, and highly reliable."

The SunTone Certification and Branding program, led by Sun Microsystems, Inc., is a collaborative industry effort to define best practices and audit solution providers' infrastructure, operational practices, hardware, software and delivery for high quality of service. "By achieving SunTone certification for Enterprise Outsourcing, Verizon Information Technologies passed a rigorous review process to meet industry high standards for excellence in infrastructure, availability and uptime," said Stans Kleijnen, vice president of Marketing Development Engineering at Sun. "Customers can be confident that Verizon Information Technologies' Enterprise Outsourcing Services are built and managed according to the industry's best practices and high-quality standards established through the SunTone Certification and Branding program."
