Verizon will help develop a well-coordinated e-health policy to benefit Texas residents as a board member of the Texas e-Health Alliance, a nonprofit organization of health information technology stakeholders.

Founded in 2009, the Texas e-Health Alliance's overriding goal is to improve patient outcomes and expand access to quality health care across Texas by fostering an environment for the exchange of ideas and best practices among state policymakers, health care providers and the corporate, nonprofit and academic communities.

The alliance seeks to develop and promote comprehensive public policy initiatives to support the adoption of health information technologies, such as health information exchanges, electronic health and medical records, telemedicine and home health care and remote monitoring.

"As the U.S. health care industry continues to innovate, organizations such as the Texas e-Health Alliance will play a pivotal role in crafting and implementing policies to spur the adoption of advanced health information technologies," said Kannan Sreedhar, vice president and global managing director, Verizon Connected Healthcare Solutions.  "For too long the U.S. health care industry has lagged other industries in this area.  The Texas e-Health Alliance provides a useful forum to help ensure that investments in health information technologies are leveraged to benefit all Texans."

Verizon Connected Healthcare Solutions - On the Move

Verizon has broad experience supporting the health care industry, providing services to more than 17,000 customers, including more than 90 percent of health care companies in the Fortune 1000.

In August 2009, the company created Verizon Connected Healthcare Solutions, a dedicated practice group drawing from the expertise and resources across Verizon.  By delivering advanced IT solutions and consulting services for the health care industry, including hospitals, medical providers and insurers/payers, as well as pharmaceutical and life science companies, Verizon is helping the industry transform the delivery of patient care, better manage costs and enhance access to services.

In July, the company unveiled Verizon Health Information Exchange, one of the first interoperable cloud-based solutions to facilitate the sharing of patient information among participating health care providers across communities, states and regions.  In addition, Verizon in March launched the Verizon Medical Data Exchange, and in November 2009, the company introduced Verizon Telehealth Collaboration Services.
