Verizon Music Festival in Tampa Bay Area To Benefit Victims and Heroes of Terrorist Attacks

Tampa, Fla. -- Verizon and the Verizon Music Festival will donate all proceeds of the ticket sales from the Oct. 25 concert at The Coliseum in St. Petersburg to theAmerican Red Cross and the United Way of Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. The donations are in recognition of and tribute to the victims and heroes of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Tickets for the show will be on a pay-what-you-can basis and are available only at The Coliseum box office.

To date, Verizon and its employees have donated more than $16 million nationally to the rescue and relief effort.

"Now is the time for all Americans to pull together," said John Blanchard, Verizon Southeast Region president. "And this is a wonderful opportunity for Tampa Bay area residents to show their support for the victims of this terrible tragedy. Verizon is proud to be able to use this entertainment event to help victims, their families and communities affected by the events of Sept. 11."

The show, titled "Jazz The Way You Like It: An Evening Of Swing & Dance," will feature the George Wein All-Stars with Ken Peplowski, Warren Vaché, Lew Tabackin & Howard Alden, plus Johnny Varro Swing 7. Performances begin at 7 p.m.

"The tragedies of Sept. 11 affected the whole nation and we are proud to be able to help in any way we can with the relief effort," said Festival Productions CEO George Wein. "The Verizon Music Festival we produced in Los Angeles yielded a significant donation to the United Way, and we hope to continue the good work in the Tampa Bay area."

The Verizon Music Festival in the Tampa Bay area will run Oct. 24-27.
