AMHERST, N.Y.  - In response to the growing demand for Verizon's voice, data and television products and services, the company has opened a retail store here at 3300 Sheridan Drive in Buffalo, NY, located within the Crawford Furniture Plaza.

A grand-opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place Saturday (Jan. 24) at 9 a.m., with festivities lasting all day.

Through Jan. 31, Verizon is asking all visitors to the store to bring food donations, which will be given to The Food Bank of Western New York.  Everyone who donates will be entered in a drawing to win a 42-inch flat-screen HD TV.  In addition, Verizon will also conduct a drawing for admission tickets to the Junior League of Buffalo's Decorator's Show House 2009 to be held at the E. B. Green's Wallace Estate in Amherst.  FiOS TV and Internet will be on display in the Show House media room, and visitors will be able to order FiOS while viewing the Show House, which runs from April 25 to May 17.

Located in a heavily trafficked shopping area, the Verizon store serves Verizon customers and showcases the company's products and services, including its revolutionary new FiOS TV and Internet services.

Inside the store, Verizon has created a family-room setting, where shoppers can try out FiOS Internet, FiOS TV and FiOS TV's innovative DVR products. Verizon representatives will be on hand to demonstrate the services and answer questions. Shoppers can also order all other Verizon services right at the store.

The new Verizon retail location will also serve as a customer service center where customers can pick up or exchange FiOS TV set-top boxes and remote controls. In addition, they can pay their Verizon bills via cash, check, credit or debit, or consult with representatives about their services.

The store will be open Mondays through Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. The store's phone number is 716-835-1297.

"By opening our new store, we are getting closer to our customers and the residents of the communities we serve," said Maureen Rasp-Glose, Verizon's director of government and external affairs in western New York. "Our customers will appreciate the convenience of a nearby location where they can conduct business, and potential customers will have an easy and fun way to see for themselves how different and game-changing FiOS really is."

Verizon has franchise agreements to provide television service in more than 143 communities across New York state.  In September, the company began rolling out FiOS TV service to parts of several towns and villages in western New York.  The service is currently available in parts of Amherst, Blasdell, the town and village of Hamburg, Kenmore, Lackawanna, the town and village of Orchard Park, and the towns of West Seneca and Tonawanda.

FiOS TV is designed to be a formidable competitor to cable and satellite. Verizon's fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network, the largest of its kind in the country, is currently under construction in more than half the states where the company offers landline communications services. Verizon's FiOS TV service was selected as the top-ranked residential television service provider in the Northeast region by J.D. Power for 2008.

The Verizon fiber network brings the power and capacity of fiber optics directly into people's homes and has industry-leading quality and reliability.  Fiber delivers amazingly sharp pictures and sound, and has the capacity to transmit a wide array of high-definition programming that is so clear and intense it seems to leap from the TV screen.  It also delivers Internet download speeds of up to 50 Mbps (megabits per second) and upload speeds of up to 20 Mbps as well as high-quality voice services.

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ), headquartered in New York, is a leader in delivering broadband and other wireline and wireless communication innovations to mass market, business, government and wholesale customers.  Verizon Wireless operates America's most reliable wireless network, serving more than 80 million customers nationwide.  Verizon's Wireline operations include Verizon Business, which delivers innovative and seamless business solutions to customers around the world, and Verizon Telecom, which brings customers the benefits of converged communications, information and entertainment services over the nation's most advanced fiber-optic network.  A Dow 30 company, Verizon employs a diverse workforce of more than 228,000 and in 2007 generated consolidated operating revenues of $93.5 billion.  For more information, visit www.verizon.com.
