CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Verizon Communications today promoted Kathy Buckley to the post of
executive director for regulatory activities in West Virginia. She replaces Gale Given, who was named president of
Verizon West Virginia in July.
Buckley, an 18-year veteran of the company, began her career in Charleston in the network engineering organization,
where she engineered and coordinated the installation of call-switching systems.
Most recently, she directed Verizon's highly acclaimed WORLD SCHOOL initiative. Under the WORLD SCHOOL
program, Verizon and its predecessor, Bell Atlantic, brought high-speed Internet connections to nearly 700 schools
throughout the Mountain State.
Buckley, a native of Poca, W.Va., graduated from the West Virginia University Institute of Technology with a
bachelor's degree in engineering. She also has a master's degree in business administration from the West Virginia
Graduate College and a master's certificate in project management from the George Washington University School of
Business.
She also completed advanced management training at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. In addition, she
serves on the West Virginia University Extension Service Visiting Committee. She is also on the Board of Directors
for the United Food Operation for Kanawha and Putnam counties.
Buckley and her husband, Dana, have two sons and live in Teays Valley.
