Verizon Wireless Assists Fight Against Domestic Violence
In Coast-to-Coast Community Service Campaign

Verizon Wireless is committed to putting wireless products and services to work to combat domestic violence. In October, in recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the company sponsored a variety of activities across its nationwide footprint. During the month the company donated more than 5,000 wireless phones and over $36,000 in cash. It also distributed internally and externally 36,000 posters designed to educate employees and the public about the destructive effects Domestic Violence can have at home and in the workplace.

Alabama
Birmingham - Verizon Wireless worked with the City of Birmingham Police
Department to outfit victims of domestic violence with wireless phones to contact
911 at the touch of a button.
Mobile - Domestic violence awareness posters placed in all Verizon Wireless
offices and stores.

Arizona
Albuquerque - Verizon Wireless supported local domestic violence shelters
through the donation of 20 phones and airtime to the Albuquerque County District
Attorney's office.
Maricopa County -- Verizon Wireless supported local domestic violence
shelters through the donation of 200 phones and airtime to the Maricopa County
Sheriff's Department.
Phoenix - Verizon Wireless supported the Fresh Start Women's Foundation
through the donation of 15 phones and airtime to domestic violence shelters.
Santa Fe -- Verizon Wireless supported local domestic violence shelters
through the donation of 10 phones and airtime to the Esperanza Women's Shelter.
Scottsdale - Verizon Wireless was the title sponsor of the Masquerade
Ball at the Wrigley Mansion, benefitting the Fresh Start Women's Foundation,
on October 27.

Arkansas
Statewide - Domestic violence awareness posters placed in all Verizon
Wireless locations.

California
Fresno -- Verizon Wireless donated 50 phones and airtime to domestic
violence shelters.
Los Angeles - With L.A. City Council members Joel Wachs and Cindy Miscikowski
and officials from the City of Los Angeles Commission on the Status of Women,
Verizon Wireless launched a domestic violence awareness poster campaign, targeting
area businesses.
Los Angeles County - At an October 4 event with L.A. County District
Attorney Gil Garcetti and other local officials, Verizon Wireless and Motorola
donated 100 phones and airtime to battered women shelters.
Mountainview - Verizon Wireless donated 25 phones and airtime to domestic
violence shelters. Oakland -- Verizon Wireless donated 50 phones and airtime
to domestic violence shelters.
Oakland -- Verizon Wireless donated 75 phones and airtime to the Oakland
Police Department for use by domestic violence shelters.
San Diego - Verizon Wireless donated multiple voicemail boxes for use
by battered women's shelters.
San Francisco -- Verizon Wireless donated 75 phones and airtime to the
San Francisco Police Department for use by domestic violence shelters.
San Jose -- Verizon Wireless has donated 75 phones and airtime to the
San Jose Police Department for use by domestic violence shelters.

Colorado
Statewide -- Earlier this year, Verizon Wirless donated 500 phones with
2 years' of free airtime to domestic violence protection organizations in the
state.

Connecticut
Danbury - Verizon Wireless made a $500 donation of wireless service and
Hopeline voicemail boxes to Women's Center of Greater Danbury.
Wallingford - Verizon Wireless employees participated in a "Wish List"
Drive for the Meriden Wallingford Chrysalis Domestic Violence Services. Items
collected were needed to operate the shelters and assist the women and children
who are living there.

District of Columbia
Washington - Verizon Wireless provided free phones and airtime to a research
team at George Washington University studying intervention strategies for domestic
abuse victimes.

Florida
Statewide -- Domestic violence awareness posters have been placed at
32 Verizon Wireless retail stores and two of the company's customer service
centers.
Statewide -- Through news items in state newspapers, local businesses
were encouraged to contact Verizon Wireless to receive free domestic violence
awareness posters to educate employees.
Ft. Lauderdale - Women in Distress of Broward County distributed domestic
violence awareness posters provided by Verizon Wireless.
Lakeland - A donation was made to Peace River Domestic Violence Shelter
in memory of a Verizon Wireless employee's sister who had stayed there.
Miami - Domestic violence awareness posters were provided to many organizations,
including SafeSpace.
Orlando - Verizon Wireless donated wireless phones and free minutes to
Harbor House Center Against Domestic Violence.
Tallahassee - To mark the grand opening of a new Verizon Wireless retail
store, the company donated wireless phones and free minutes to Refuge House.
Tampa Bay - Verizon Wireless provided domestic violence awareness posters
to many organizations, including The Harrell Center for the Study of Domestic
Violence at the University of South Florida, several public schools, medical
facilities and churches.
Tampa Bay - Verizon Wireless sponsored the Spring of Tampa Bay's Donate-A-Phone
campaign to collect unused wireless phones for refurbishing.
West Palm Beach - The YWCA Harmony House distributed domestic violence
awareness posters provided by Verizon Wireless.

Georgia
Alpharetta - At the Verizon Wireless Southeast Area headquarters, the
last week of October was Domestic Violence Awareness Week. Employees drop off
toiletries for use by guests at area domestic violence shelters.
Henry County - Provided 10 wireless phones and airtime to Flint House,
preprogrammed with phone numbers for the shelter and 911.

Hawaii
Hilo -- Verizon Wireless donated 3 phones and free airtime through the
Hawaii Child and Family Services for use by family counselors who visit residents'
homes.
Kauai - Verizon Wireless donated 4 phones and free airtime through the
Hawaii Child and Family Services for use by family counselors who visit residents'
homes.
Kona -- Verizon Wireless donated 3 phones and free airtime through the
Hawaii Child and Family Services for use by family counselors who visit residents'
homes.
Maui -- Verizon Wireless donated 10 phones and free airtime through the
Hawaii Child and Family Services for use by family counselors who visit residents'
homes.

Idaho
Rexberg - Verizon Wireless donated five phones and service to the Family
Crisis Center.

Illinois
Champaign -- Verizon Wireless highlighted Domestic Violence Awareness
Month holding a press conference on October 26th in Champaign-Urbana.
Verizon Wireless donated a total of 80 phones and free airtime to four area
shelters/programs.
Chicago - On October 19, Verizon Wireless presented free phones and service
to the Chicago Foundation of Women for use by area shelters.
Peoria - Verizon Wireless highlighted Domestic Violence Awareness Month
holding a press conference on October 25th in Peoria. Verizon Wireless
donated a total of 50 phones and free airtime to four area shelters/programs.
Presentation included State Representative David Leitch.

Iowa
Davenport -- Verizon Wireless highlighted Domestic Violence Awareness
Month holding a press conference on October 24th in Davenport, IA.
Verizon Wireless donated a total of 15 phones and free airtime to three area
shelters/programs. Presentation included State Senator Maggie Tinsman.
Des Moines - Upon the opening of a new retail store's grand opening,
Verizon Wireless made a $2,500 donation to the local domestic violence organization.

Kansas
Rosebrook - Verizon Wireless made a financial contribution to the community's
domestic violence organization.

Louisiana
Statewide - Domestic violence awareness posters placed in all Verizon
Wireless offices and stores.
Gulf Coast Region -- Verizon Wireless regional employees can purchase
stickers that read "Verizon Wireless - Helping Fight Domestic Violence."
One day each week, employees who have purchased the sticker can wear jeans to
work. Money collected goes to a local shelter.

Maryland
Statewide - Verizon Wireless has distributed 45 domestic violence awareness
posters in regional stores, kiosks, network offices and at the regional headquarters.
Baltimore - Verizon Wireless made a donation of free phones to CHANA/House
of Ruth to aid victims of domestic violence.
Dundalk - Verizon Wireless made a phone donation to the Johns Hopkins
University Bayview mobile healthcare van, which provides service to domestic
violence victims at the Family Crisis Center.
Howard County - Verizon Wireless has donated three large-screen TVs to
the Domestic Violence Center of Howard County, for use in training and educational
workshops for law enforcement and case workers.
Howard County - Verizon Wireless sponsored four employee seminars on
domestic violence, featuring Susan Tucker of the Domestic Violence Center.

Massachusetts
Woburn and Westboro - Verizon Wireless employees participated in a suit
drive to collect slightly-worn business attire for "Positive Impressions" in
Boston, MA

Michigan
Statewide - Strengthened partnership with the Michigan Sheriffs' Association,
through which more than 2,000 phones and free airtime were donated to Michigan
shelters and abuse prevention groups.
Oakland County - Donated 100 phones to Haven, a domestic violence shelter.

Minnesota
Statewide - On October 19, Verizon Wireless announced the donation of
phones and airtime to victims of domestic violence leaving shelters throughout
the state, through the Day One program. The contribution's value is more than
$40,000.

Missouri
St. Louis - Verizon Wireless presented 260 free phones to 10 local shelters.
Presentation included State Senators Anita Yeckel and Betty Sims, and State
Representative Chuck Gross.
Cape Girardeau - On October 11, Verizon Wireless presented five local
shelters with 83 free phones and airtime at an event with State Senator Peter
Kinder.

Nebraska
Statewide -- Verizon Wireless provided phones programmed to call 9-1-1
and local shelters for a new organization, Project Emergency Phone Service,
serving domestic abuse victims. Verizon Wireless retail stores served as collection
points for no-longer-used phones donated to the program.

New Hampshire
Manchester -- The Verizon Wireless' Manchester, New Hampshire store worked
with the Manchester Police Department and a local Domestic Violence Outreach
team to collect and program phones for use in that area.

New Jersey
Corporate Headquarters - Verizon Wireless, working in conjunction with
the Family Violence Prevention Fund, unveiled stark, hard-hitting posters that
drive home the impact of domestic violence on women and their employers. The
posters were sent to all Verizon Wireless' regional and area headquarters locations
for display. In addition, the posters were made available free-of-charge to
businesses throughout the country to encourage employers to help their employees
who are affected by domestic violence.

New York
Statewide - Sent copies of the Verizon Wireless-sponsored domestic violence
awareness posters to organizations working to combat domestic violence.
Stony Brook - Verizon Wireless introduced its College Domestic Violence
Program at SUNY-Stony Brook.
Westchester County - On October 19, Verizon Wireless Regional President
Charles Hand joined District Attorney Janine Pirro to present refurbished phones,
collected during an August "recycling drive," to local domestic violence
prevention groups.

North Carolina
Charlotte - Healing Hearts Domestic Violence Shelter received 10 pre-programmed
911 wireless phones and 10 voice mail boxes.
Rock Hill - Donation made to Interfaith Hospitality to combat domestic
violence.
Western North Carolina -Verizon Wireless donated 12 pre-programmed 911
wireless phones and 10 voice mail boxes to Safe Inc. of Swain/Qualla, which
services domestic violence victims in Bryson City, Cherokee and Graham County.

Ohio
Statewide - With the Attorney General of Ohio, Verizon Wireless kicked
off a month-long phone recycling program, with over 1,000 donated phones going
to anti-domestic violence groups in the state.
Northeast Ohio - Verizon Wireless was a sponsor of a fundraiser held
for the Center for Prevention of Domestic Violence on October 13. Each of the
1,200 participants received a domestic violence awareness poster.

Oklahoma
Statewide - Domestic violence awareness posters placed in all Verizon
Wireless offices and stores.

Pennsylvania
Erie - In collaboration with SafeNet, held a recycling drive for unused
wireless phones throughout the month.
Western Pennsylvania - Verizon Wireless Regional President Roger Tang
provided awareness posters to leaders in the fight against domestic violence,
including Butler County Commissioners, U.S. Senators Spector and Santorum, executive
directors of six shelters and past participants in the company's Domestic Violence
Awareness Seminars.

South Carolina
Anderson - Verizon Wireless contributed $500 to the Coalition for the
Understanding and Reduction of Relationship Violence, to support building the
community's first domestic violence shelter.
Columbia -- Verizon Wireless contributed $500 to SisterCare, and participated
in a domestic violence awareness effort sponsored by the group.
Laurens County - Verizon Wireless made a financial contribution to the
county's Safe Home project.
University of South Carolina - Verizon Wireless was a sponsor of the Safe Dorm
initiative.

South Dakota
Sioux City - To commemorate the launch of Verizon Wireless digital service
in Sioux City, the company made a $2,500 donation to the Council on Sexual Assault
and Domestic Violence.

Tennessee
Knoxville - Verizon Wireless collected over 50 phones from individuals
and businesses in conjunction with the Community Coalition on Family Violence.
The phones will be re-programmed and distributed to victims at risk.
Chattanooga - Verizon Wireless donated 21 phones to the Domestic Violence
Task Force. The company also participated in a program to collect phones for
the Task Force throughout October. The drive culminated in a candlelight vigil
to honor victims and to promote awareness.
Memphis - Verizon Wireless announced plans to donate 13 computers to
two local domestic violence groups.
Nashville - Verizon Wireless announced plans to sponsor the "You
Have the Power" book, an informational booklet for domestic violence awareness.

Texas
Statewide - Domestic violence awareness posters placed in all Verizon
Wireless locations.
Dallas - Co-sponsored the Ramona Logan Tennis Classic on October 7, with
proceeds supporting the Genesis Women's Shelter. North Texas Region President
Cindy Patterson presented a check for $15,000 to the shelter.
Central Texas -- Verizon Wireless regional employees purchased stickers
that read "Verizon Wireless - Helping Fight Domestic Violence." One
day each week, employees who had purchased the sticker were permitted to wear
jeans to work. Money collected went to a local shelter.
Houston - Employees contributed $10 each to a local domestic violence
organization, for a total of more than $15,000.
North Texas - Verizon Wireless customers who donated $10 to a domestic
violence shelter during the last two weeks of October received a free headset.
North Texas - Verizon Wireless regional employees purchased stickers
that read "Verizon Wireless - Helping Fight Domestic Violence." One
day each week, employees who had purchased the sticker were permitted to wear
jeans to work. Money collected goes to a local shelter.

Washington
Seattle - On October 6, Verizon Wireless donated $1,500 to help the Eastside
Domestic Violence group sponsor its Safe Passage Lunch. Verizon Wireless also
funded development of a local domestic violence awareness poster, being distributed
to area businesses.

Wisconsin
Statewide - Verizon Wireless donated phones and airtime to 150 shelters
across the state and made public the availability of free domestic violence
awareness posters for businesses throughout the state.
Milwaukee -- Verizon Wireless provided the Sojourner Truth House with
50 wireless phones for use by shelter staff. The announcement was attended by
U.S. Representative Tom Barrett.
Madison - Verizon Wireless is providing Domestic Abuse Intervention Services
with free phones and service.

Wyoming
Statewide - Earlier this year, Verizon Wireless donated nearly 200 phones
and airtime to the Wyoming Domestic Violence State Coalition through the industry's
Call to Protect program.

Vermont
Statewide -- Through a donation from the New England region the Vermont
Network Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault was able to purchase 1,000
enamel purple ribbon pins. Each of the 16 domestic violence and sexual assault
programs were given a number of pins to distribute among staff, volunteers and
to key members in their communities.
Chittenden County - Verizon Wireless donated $500 to the Chittenden County
DV task force, to sponsor Living With the Enemy, a photographic exhibit which
demonstrates the horror of abuse and the hope of resistance and recovery through
images of battered women, their children, and their abusers.
