BEDMINSTER, NJ - This morning, William Kennard, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, announced that he will depart from his position on January 19, 2001. In response, Denny Strigl, President and CEO of Verizon Wireless, made the following statement.
"Bill Kennard's vision for the wireless telecommunications industry and his leadership at the FCC made an important contribution to the competitive environment in wireless services. Importantly, Bill has begun the process of opening up spectrum auctions, and moving the FCC toward a more fair spectrum policy, which may bring the benefits of advanced wireless services sooner to American consumers, families and communities.
"The trust and integrity the Chairman has always displayed made it a pleasure to work with him, even when we held positions contrary to his.
"On behalf of the employees and customers of Verizon Wireless, I thank him for a job well-done, and wish him all the very best in his future endeavors."
