Verizon Wireless Donates Vital Communications To The Connecticut Witness Protection Program

America's #1 Wireless Service Carrier Provides 10 Additional Wireless Phones To Local Witnesses Testifying Against Criminals

Verizon Wireless today donated 10 wireless phones to the Connecticut Witness Protection program. These phones will provide an added layer of safety for people in the statewide program who testify at trials in Connecticut. This is the second time in two years that Verizon Wireless has donated phones at the request of the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.

"If we have a witness in danger who doesn't have a wireless phone, they may be living without a lifeline," said John M. Bailey, Connecticut Chief State's Attorney. "If they're out or if somebody comes to where they are, they will now have immediate contact with a police agency by using their Verizon Wireless phone."

Through the Verizon Wireless HopeLinesm Program, the company focuses primarily on putting wireless products and services to work to provide emergency communications, with a strong focus on combating domestic violence. Keeping witnesses safe, however, is another way in which Verizon Wireless helps to stop unnecessary violence through the use of wireless technology, providing the ability to reach law enforcement quickly. The company understands violence is an epidemic that devastates neighbors, friends and co-workers. As such, it dedicates its resources to both the prevention of violence and the life-rebuilding process.

"We are happy to donate additional phones to the Connecticut Witness Protection Program," said Bob Stott, president of the New England Region for Verizon Wireless. "Providing critical communications to people when and where they need it, especially in an emergency, is the focus of our HopeLine community relations program."
