Verizon Wireless Improves Service, Expands Network Capacity In Southern Maryland
January 16, 2002
Verizon Wireless has completed work to improve and expand the capacity of the company's extensive wireless network by deploying the latest code division multiple access (CDMA) digital call handling equipment in its analog cell site in St. Mary's County, Maryland, near Great Mills.
For customers, the new digital upgrade translates into improved voice service, fewer dropped calls, greater call clarity and longer battery life. In addition, digital service enables customers to use wireless data services such as those delivered on the Verizon Wireless Smartphone, including web access and text messaging.
"With this significant addition to our wireless network, we're providing our local business and consumer customers with the technology and capabilities they've been asking for," said Patrick Devlin, president of Verizon Wireless' Washington/Baltimore/Virginia Region.
Customer growth, greater usage due to high value pricing like SingleRateSM national and regional calling plans, and the popularity of its Mobile Web wireless Internet services are driving the local demand for the company's wireless services. Staying ahead of the wireless growth curve requires continuing network expansion and enhancements.
Verizon Wireless invested more than $200 million in its network in the Washington-Baltimore-Virginia region in 2001 as part of the company's nationwide $4 billion network improvement program to offer customers service on the most extensive wireless network in the U.S.
