Continuing its effort to provide the highest-quality wireless service in the state, Verizon Wireless, the largest wireless provider in the United States, today announced it will spend $95 million to upgrade its network in Indiana. By the end of 2001, the Verizon Wireless network in Indiana will be nearly 100 percent digital.

"We are excited about these investments in our Indiana network," said Wayne White, Verizon Wireless president of the Indiana, Michigan and Kentucky region. "This is an indication of how hard we are working to ensure Verizon Wireless customers continue to have access high-quality service and enhanced features."

Digital wireless service provides better sound quality and security for voice calls, and gives customers access to several additional services, including caller ID, numeric and text messaging and Mobile Web Internet access.

The investment also will provide additional capacity on Verizon Wireless' network enabling the company to handle greater call volumes and accommodate for future usage increases.

Verizon Wireless' digital network is based on a technology called code division multiple access, or CDMA. Customers who want to take full advantage of Verizon Wireless' digital network will need to upgrade to a digital or tri-mode phone.
