180 Turning Lives Around, Monmouth County New Jersey's leading domestic violence agency, on November 22, 2002 received $6,000 from Verizon Wireless to provide services for families at risk. The donation was made as a result of a HopeLineSM Phone Recycling drive held recently to benefit the organization.

During the month of August, area residents were asked to bring their no-longer-used wireless phones to Verizon Wireless' Communications Stores located in Freehold, Manalapan, West Long Branch and Eatontown. The company pledged a cash contribution for every phone donated and new service agreement signed. The phones were shipped to a national collection center where they were refurbished, recycled or sold.

"The HopeLine Phone Recycling program is an easy way for community-minded citizens to support local domestic violence organizations as they help abused women rebuild their lives," said Charles Hand, president of Verizon Wireless' New York Metro Region. "Domestic violence does not discriminate. It's all around us in places most of us would never imagine. Citizens who support the program could very well be helping their own friends or neighbors."

HopeLine is Verizon Wireless' signature community program, focused on domestic violence prevention and education. As a result of HopeLine and related phone recycling programs the company has organized since 1995, Verizon Wireless has collected more than 850,000 used wireless phones nationwide for the benefit of domestic violence victims and advocacy groups, including more than 60,000 wireless handsets here in the New York Metro area. Donations are accepted at all 1,200-plus Verizon Wireless Communications Stores across the country. For additional information, customers may visit www.verizonwireless.com/hopeline.
