Original Cinemax TV Series “The Knick” Opens August 8, While Original STARZ TV Series “Outlander” Debuts August 9; Free Cinemax and STARZ Preview Runs August 8-11

We think free previews are great. When they include the debut of two new original TV series – well, we think they are greater.

On Cinemax, a new original series “The Knick” debuts on August 8. Cinemax recently announced that it had already picked up the second season for this new drama. It is directed by Academy Award winner (“Traffic”) Steven Soderbergh, According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is set in downtown New York in 1900 and centers on Knickerbocker Hospital and the surgeons, nurses and staff who push the bounds of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics. It features Clive Owen, Jeremy Bobb, Lori Finkel and Steve Garfanti amongst the cast.

The next night, a new STARZ Original TV series “Outlander,” adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling books and executive produced by Ronald D. Moore (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation”) will debut August 9th at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The series airs every Saturday at 9 p.m. going forward. The first season is currently shooting on location in Scotland.

The STARZ Original series “Outlander” spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure in one epic tale. It follows Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a married British combat nurse from 1945 who mysteriously falls back in time to 1743 Scotland, where she is torn between the husband she left behind Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior who comes to her rescue. When she is forced to marry Fraser, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
